Remind Earns iKeepSafe California, FERPA, COPPA Privacy Badges

August 12th, 2016 — Remind has been awarded the iKeepSafe FERPA, COPPA, and California Privacy badges in recognition of their alignment with iKeepSafe’s best practice guidelines surrounding the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and other federal and state privacy laws. As part of this achievement, Remind will display the iKeepSafe Privacy badges to identify that the product has been proactively and independently assessed by an experienced privacy protection organization.

iKeepSafe Privacy Assessment badges assist schools to easily identify websites, apps, data management platforms, or other technology products that are in compliance with various privacy laws governing student data. Products that carry the iKeepSafe seal provide educators and parents with assurance that the product meets iKeepSafe’s standards in the areas of privacy, safety, and security.

Remind is a messaging app that helps teachers, students, and parents communicate quickly and efficiently. By connecting school communities, Remind makes it easy for everyone to succeed together. Remind is based in San Francisco, CA and is used by more than 35 million people in 3 out of 4 U.S. school districts.

“Remind has always prioritized the safety and security of its community, and we are honored to have our practices recognized and certified by iKeepSafe,” said Jason Fischl, Vice President of Engineering at Remind. “Digital safety for students is an ongoing conversation, and we look forward to partnering with iKeepSafe to ensure our practices reflect our commitment to providing a simple, world-class communication tool for schools.”

“iKeepSafe congratulates Remind for earning the FERPA, COPPA, and California badges,” said Marsali Hancock, president and CEO of iKeepSafe. “Parents and educators deserve a quick means of identifying safe technologies that protect student privacy. By undergoing the iKeepSafe assessment, Remind has helped empower families and schools.”

Products participating in the iKeepSafe assessment program must undergo annual re-evaluation to continue displaying the iKeepSafe badge. For the evaluation, an independent privacy expert reviewed Remind, their privacy policy and practices, as well as their data security practices.

For over a decade, iKeepSafe has been a trusted resource for schools and parents looking for balanced information about safe and healthy use of connected technologies.
