iKeepSafe At ISTE 2016

June 26-29th– iKeepSafe showcased our resources for educators at the 2016 ISTE conference and expo in Denver, Colorado (International Society for Technology in Education). While learning about iKeepSafe’s resources covering the six BEaPRO™ pillars of digital health and citizenship, booth visitors entered to win two free iPad Airs.

We had the pleasure of inviting the winner of the iKeepSafe’s ISTE Educator Scholarship competition, Kami Cottrell, to join us in our booth. Teachers, librarians, and district leaders heard from Kami’s experience bringing digital ethics into the classroom, and were provided with iKeepSafe’s free K12 Copyright & Creativity for Ethical Digital Citizens curriculum. In her classroom, Kami prompts her students to think critically about the creative process. She believes that this is essential in understanding information literacy.

Congratulations to Doug Eaton and Kapua Akiu-Wilcox, our two iPad Air winners!

iKeepSafe also shared our free resources to help the education community increase privacy skills and competencies, including free professional development, an upcoming free tool for districts to index their edtech apps and their privacy practices, and iKeepSafe’s Privacy Approved Products. Educators from Colorado were eager to learn how iKeepSafe is helping schools react to the state’s new data privacy law, the Student Data Transparency and Security Act. This law contracts with school service contract providers and sets boundaries of what school service providers can and cannot share. For more information on iKeepSafe’s privacy assessments for industry, and to request a student privacy workshop at your district or county, contact [email protected] or visit iKeepSafe.org/Privacy.

iKeepSafe and BrightBytes’ Digital Privacy, Safety and Security Module pulls all of these pieces together and provides education organizations with a clear picture of where they are in their journey to a safe and healthy digital environment, enabling the whole community to move from reactive to proactive.

We would like to thank everyone who visited our booth to learn more about digital privacy, safety, security, and ethics. Learn more about iKeepSafe’s comprehensive, multi-stakeholder approach to helping youth thrive in the digital culture.
